My thanks to the hard working, dedicated singers who helped make the evening services of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur so beautiful this year! The 5770 High Holiday Adult Volunteer Choir was: Judy Aronson, Marilyn Amster, George Dickstein, Bonnie Gibson, Jack Henrie, Robin Henrie, Margie Klein, Gayle Kushner, Jeffrey Leiter, Sheri Levson, Sandi Lotterman, Bonnie Mikesh, Robyn Newhouse (our ever-courageous rehearsal accompanist!), Miriam Pilver, Ann Rosenfield, Sheila Shear, and Herb Wood. On behalf of the entire congregation, let me say to you, “Yasher Koach!” (Literally, “straight and strong,” colloquially “Way to go!”) The Adult Volunteer Choir will be doing a number of other projects throughout the coming year, and we are always looking for new members! Our next “gig” will be for the Chanukkah service in December. Watch your Temple Bulletin and e-mails for information about rehearsals, and please let me know if you would like to come and sing with us!

You may have noticed in the schedule of newly renamed services that on Friday, October 30, there will be a “Service with Meditation.” You may be thinking, “What is this? Will I have to sit cross-legged on the floor?” No, you won’t have to sit on the floor. As a continuation of the Saturday morning Jewish Meditation sessions held back in January and February, I will be conducting this Friday night service is a somewhat “meditative style.” So what will make this service different from other services at Sinai? There will be some periods of silence, some extended chanting of a few prayers, a guided visualization, and some brief instruction in simple techniques of Jewish meditation. But there will also be many familiar melodies and pieces of liturgy common to every Friday night service here at Sinai, including Candle lighting, Kiddush, the Mi Shebeyrach prayer and the Mourner’s Kaddish. You do not need any previous experience in meditation to participate in this service, and I promise, you won’t need to sit on the floor!

Ivdu et Hashem B’simcha!
Serve the Holy One with Joy!
